Who Is a Good Candidate for Areola Reduction?
You are likely a good candidate for areola reduction if:
✦ You feel your areolas are too large, stretched, or out of proportion with your breast shape.
✦ You have uneven areolas and want improved symmetry.
✦ Your areola size changed after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or natural ageing.
✦ You are in good general health and at a stable weight.
✦ You do not smoke or vape, or you are willing to stop as advised before and after surgery.
✦ You have realistic expectations of what the results could look like.
Areola Reduction Surgery FAQs
Areola reduction is a procedure that reduces the diameter of the areola (the pigmented skin around the nipple). Your surgeon typically makes a donut-shaped incision around the areola border, removes a thin ring of tissue/skin, then closes it with fine sutures to create a smaller, neater areola.
The areola naturally enlarges, and may darken, in response to the hormones released during puberty and pregnancy. Often the areolar enlargement seen during pregnancy remains, even after lactation ceases, and may persist even when the breast loses volume. For men, a large areola is often associated with male breast enlargement.
Our areola reduction surgery pricing starts from €100 per month.
The price includes everything you need to be covered, from hospital fees, anaesthesia, surgeon fees, consultations, to aftercare and follow ups. No hidden extras.
This treatment on its own does not normally affect the ability for women to breastfeed. If you are planning on having more children, and would like to breastfeed, you may consider waiting until after that before you have your areola reduction, simply because your breasts are likely to change shape quite a bit during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Talk to your surgeon about what your
plans are, and you can discuss what’s right for you.
Risks include infection, bleeding, delayed healing, scarring that’s raised/widened, asymmetry, pigment changes, and nipple/areola sensation changes. In some cases, milk ducts can be affected, which may impact breastfeeding.
Yes. It can be done on one side or both to improve symmetry when one areola is noticeably larger or shaped differently. Your surgeon will measure and plan the target size to match your breast proportions.
It can. Some patients notice temporary numbness or sensitivity changes while nerves heal, and in rarer cases sensation changes can last longer. The risk depends on your anatomy and how much correction is needed, which your surgeon will assess in consultation.
There will be a scar, but it’s usually positioned on the areola edge so it blends into the natural colour change. Most scars fade well over time, though thickened or more noticeable scarring can occur in some people.
Most patients describe mild to moderate soreness and tightness, especially in the first few days. Discomfort is typically manageable with prescribed pain relief and settles as swelling reduces.
Recovery varies, but many people return to desk-based work within 1–2 days. Expect swelling and tenderness for several days, with a more “settled” look often over 1–2 weeks. You’ll usually need to avoid strenuous exercise and chest pressure for a few weeks.
