Breast Augmentation FAQs
GENERAL
Breast augmentation (also known as a boob job) can benefit anybody who’s looking to feel more comfortable in their own skin in regard to their breasts.
Whether you want to increase the size of your breasts, correct asymmetrical breasts, or restore your breast’s natural volume, breast augmentation surgery can help you.
During your breast surgery consultation, your full medical history is examined to make sure you’re an appropriate candidate.
Then you’ll have a breast examination, which will allow your doctor to assess the characteristics of your breast tissue as well as the size and shape of your rib cage.
You’ll also be able to choose your preferred implant size, shape and projection during your consultation. Once you’ve chosen, you can try on a special garment that allows you to see and feel what your new breasts will be like.
During your consultation, you are in the driver’s seat. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like. Your doctor will address any concerns you might have so you can be confident about the choice you’re making.
There are always risks with any surgery, no matter how safe it is. These risks can include infection, scarring, and pain. If you’re worried about complications during your breast surgery, then talk with your doctor, and they’ll explain all the risks to you to help you make an informed decision.
IMPLANTS
This varies from patient to patient, and will be discussed with you during your consultation.
Implants are available as either round or teardrop in shape. Your doctor will run through everything you need to know about the types of implants we have in your initial consultation.
BIA-ALCL is a rare but potentially serious condition. 80% of BIA-ALCL cases are associated with the implant manufacturer Allergan. Auralia does not use Allergan implants. If you’d like further information about BIA-ALCL please go here.
AFTER PROCEDURE
After the operation, you’ll be discharged the same day, and we advise that a friend drives you home from the hospital. Most patients won’t have any bruising after surgery, but occasionally some patients will under their breasts.
There might be a small bit of swelling within the breasts and your skin might feel tight during recovery, but this will relax after the first week and your breasts will return to their more natural appearance.
Painkillers might be needed during your first 5 days of recovery, but you’ll be able to resume driving and light work the day after surgery.
You should avoid lifting heavy weights like shopping bags until you’re fully healed. You should also wait until the day after to shower.
Furthermore, you’ll have a check-up with Dr Salman after your first week, and by now most patients go back to work.
By week 6 you’ll have your final review appointment with Dr Salman and the majority of swelling should have gone down.
Your breast implant will not rupture on an airplane, and this is a common misconception. Breast implants are perfectly safe for flying, and you’ll be able to travel with no issues. However, it is not recommended that you take flights longer than 5 hours in the first week post-surgery.
Breast implants are placed below the mammary gland so they won’t interfere with breastfeeding.
If your job involves light office work, they can go back to work within 3-4 days. You can go back to more intense work after 7 days.
You won’t be able to exercise straight after breast implant surgery, and you’ll only be able to resume exercise or go back to the gym 4-5 weeks post-operation.
