How We Help You Choose Your Target Size
Most patients come in with a cup size in mind, but cup sizing varies a lot between bra brands and styles. So instead of promising a specific cup letter, we focus on a result that is realistic, proportionate, and aligned with your body and lifestyle.
During your consultation, we consider:
Your chest width and breast base shape
How much tissue can be safely removed while maintaining a natural look
Skin quality and how much lift is needed
Your activity level, work, and exercise goals
Your preference for a more subtle or more significant reduction
Breast Reduction For Athletic Women
If you train regularly, heavy breasts can make exercise feel uncomfortable and limiting. Breast reduction can help you move more freely, reduce pulling and bounce, and make it easier to find supportive sports bras that actually fit. Many patients also notice less shoulder strain from straps and more comfort during running, HIIT, and upper-body workouts.
During your consultation, we plan your reduction around your lifestyle, not just your measurements. We’ll talk about your training routine, what movements feel restricted, and the look you want in and out of gym wear, so your result feels balanced, natural, and practical long term.

breast reduction Surgery FAQs
Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) is a procedure that removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to make the breasts smaller, lighter, and more proportionate. It can also reshape and lift the breasts, and is often chosen to relieve symptoms like back, neck, and shoulder discomfort caused by heavy breasts.
- Women bothered by the feeling that their breasts are too large
- Women struggling with physical activity due to the size of their breasts
- Women experiencing back, neck and shoulder pain caused by the weight of their breasts
- Women aiming to boost self-esteem and confidence
- Women experiencing post-pregnancy breast changes
Breast reduction surgery general cost starts from £8,000, however, the exact price depends on various factors like the size of the breast, the goal of the patient and if it will be combined with other surgeries or not.
At Auralia we can help you spread the cost of the surgery up to 36 monthly payments.

During your breast reduction surgery consultation, your full medical history is examined to make sure you’re an appropriate candidate.
Then you’ll have a breast examination, which will allow your doctor to assess the characteristics of your breast to decide the best approach for you and give your personalized recommendation.
During your consultation, you are in the driver’s seat. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like. Your doctor will address any concerns you might have so you can be confident about the choice you’re making.
Your Auralia surgeon might also mark your breast to identify the target area so you both have a better understanding of what will be done, and where the scars might be.
Breast reduction surgery varies in length depending on the complexity of the surgery. In average, it might take from 2 to 3 hours.
Though breast reduction is generally very safe, there are always risks to any surgery. Choosing the right clinic and following all pre-and post-operative instructions will greatly reduce the risk of complications. Some potential risks may include:
Bleeding
Infection
Scarring
At Auralia, your surgeons do their best to ensure your safety, we are a CHKS and ISO approved hospital with 23 years of expertise, we are able to deal with all types of complications that might occur.
At Auralia your safety, happiness and well-being is our first priority!
Some discomfort is inevitable. Discomfort is usually well controlled by our experienced consultant anaesthetists. On discharge home, we will advise you on what types of pain killers to use.
The scars from breast reduction are very tiny, and generally not visible.
Your Auralia surgeon will try their best to conceal those incisions within the natural creases of your surgery area.
Usually, people can recover from breast reduction fairly quickly, but if it’s combined with another procedure it can vary depending on how many incisions were made and how extensive the surgery was.
Most patients are able to leave the house and return to work after 3 to 4 days.
At Auralia, our aftercare plan is individually tailored to each patient’s procedure and requirements to give them the quickest possible recovery.
We are proud to offer fully comprehensive and inclusive aftercare to all our patients. Our Irish based surgeons are contactable 24 hours a day if you need them, and our professional and highly trained medical team are accessible at all times to assist you with any concerns you might have after your treatment. All patients receive three post-op consultations, but if you feel you need more support, we can facilitate you without any extra cost.
No. There’s no evidence that breast reduction causes breast cancer. Large studies have found no increased risk, and some research suggests the long-term risk may be lower because some breast tissue is removed, although regular screening is still important.
The reduction itself is long-lasting, but your breasts can still change over time due to ageing, weight changes, pregnancy, and hormones. So the result is generally permanent, but it’s normal for the shape to evolve gradually over the years.
Most surgeons recommend waiting until your body has recovered and your breast size has stabilised, especially if you’re breastfeeding. A common guideline is around 6 months after breastfeeding has stopped, to let the breast tissue settle and reduce risks.
There is no fixed minimum breast size medically. Candidacy is usually based on your symptoms, breast proportions, skin quality, and how much reduction is safe while achieving the shape you want. Some insurers may set minimum criteria (like cup size or minimum tissue to be removed) for reimbursement.
Sometimes, but usually only when it’s medically necessary, not purely cosmetic. In Ireland, private insurers can have strict criteria (for example, BMI, cup size, and documented symptoms) before they’ll contribute. The safest approach is to ask your insurer for their exact medical criteria.
Following your visit to Auralia, you will be given pre- and post-operative instructions to guide you on how to be well prepared for your breast lift surgery and what to do afterwards. This will also contain the hospital's contact details.
You will also be given your Auralia surgeon’s emergency mobile number for calls after hours. During work hours, you should contact the hospital.
If you suspect anything is wrong outside of business hours, you are welcome to call the emergency number of your surgeon and speak with them directly, day or night.
Alternatively, you can drop straight into the hospital during working hours.
Absolutely not! You are entitled to as many appointments as you feel you need with your surgeon, following your breast lift surgery.
Absolutely! From the time you have your breast lift with your Auralia surgeon, you are entitled to see them for appointments for as long as necessary.
