Breast Implant Removal and Replacement In Ireland
Experience Safe and Professional Implant Surgery with our Experts.
What is Breast Implant Removal and Replacement Surgery?
Some patients may choose or need to remove and replace their breast implants. In this procedure, the old implants are removed, and new ones are inserted. If there is any silicone leakage, your Auralia surgeon will remove as much as possible. Scar tissue or parts of the implant capsule may also need to be removed.
Unless you experience issues like pain or discomfort, removal isn’t necessary. However, if you no longer wish to have implants, this procedure can help.

Breast Implant Removal or Replacement FAQs
Breast implant removal and replacement is a necessary surgery for those who:
- Suffer from capsular contracture post breast augmentation. Capsular contracture is a condition where the
breasts harden after a breast augmentation. - Have implants that are leaking or ruptured. And this requires an ultrasound or in some cases MRI to detect
silicone leaks in particular as initial diagnosis by the surgeon is not enough to confirm a leak. - Have a desire for bigger or smaller breasts.
- Wish to look round or more natural?
This procedure requires general anaesthesia and usually takes about 1 – 2 hours. To remove the implants, the Auralia surgeon will need to make an incision in the inframammary fold, under the breast to remove the implants and perform a capsulectomy where needed. In some cases where implants leak, silicon and scar tissue is removed too. Although not all the silicone can be removed. After the breast implants are safely removed from the breasts the Auralia surgeon will then insert the new implants and close the incisions using absorbable stitches. Tape is placed on the stitches. The implants you get will be your choice of size and style. A special support bra and/or a compression strap may be used for 2 – 3 weeks after surgery.
Breast Implants Removal or Replacement cost depend on various factors like the type of implants used and their size.
At Auralia we can help you spread the cost of your breast implant surgery up to 36 monthly payments.

Some risks of removing breast implant(s) include:
- Asymmetry of the breasts.
- Scarring.
- Dissatisfaction with the outcome.
- Loose skin, which may require an uplift.
These risks depend on several factors, such as, implant size, implant quality and scar tissue.
It is expected that you will experience some discomfort for up to 7 days. This is the same for all breast implant procedures. However, you will still be quite mobile from day 1 after surgery. Your Auralia surgeon will give you specific guidelines on what you should do, but as a general rule, you should remain mobile after your procedure.
You are not encouraged to go home and rest in bed. The more mobile you are, the faster your recovery will be. Any discomfort that you do experience can be resolved with medication, which your Auralia surgeon will prescribe to you.
Yes. Once your Auralia surgeon has given you permission, you can begin to use Bio-Oil ® for the first couple of weeks. Generally, the scaring will fade into a smooth, thin white line. Keep in mind, this will need to happen within the first couple of weeks, it may take a number of months before the scars eventually mature into a thin line.
The Polyurethane implants will initially be a little firm and will soften over the first 45-60 days. The final result can be expected from this time. Keep in mind, after your procedure, there may be some swelling or bruising. Only when this fully goes down will you see the final shape and size of your new breasts.
Breast implants are placed below the mammary gland and therefore should not interfere with breastfeeding at all.
After your surgery mobility is important for a speedy recovery. For the first two weeks you should only take walks and avoid any weight lifting or strenuous movement.
Finally, after 6 weeks have passed from your surgery date, you can return to a more active exercise routine.
You can shower the day after your procedure. There will be tape over your incisions, which can get wet. Showering is advised, but do not use the bathtub.
