What’s Involved In A Mini Gastric Bypass Procedure?
The stomach is divided and a small tube is created. This is similar to a gastric sleeve. Food continues to pass into the newly created smaller section of the stomach but because it’s been reduced in size less food can be consumed. This is known as the restrictive component of the procedure. The next part of a mini gastric bypass involves bringing a loop of your bowel, approximately 150cm in length, up to join the lower border of the small stomach tube. Now, food will pass from your small stomach directly into the small intestine and meet the digestive juices which have been produced in the bigger section of your stomach. About 150cms of your bowel have been bypassed with this procedure which means the calories that are normally absorbed in that area of the intestine are no longer absorbed. This will help you take in fewer calories and lose more weight. Like with a traditional gastric bypass there are also changes to the hormone for appetite which helps you lose weight too

Mini Gastric Bypass FAQs
There are two main side effects of a mini gastric bypass and they are:
1.Bile acid reflux
Because the stomach is connected to the intestines, there is a risk that digestive juices can reflux up into the small stomach. This can cause:
● Ulceration
● Inflammation
● Heartburn
2. Vitamin and mineral deficiency
A mini gastric bypass is a malabsorptive procedure, which means you’ll have to take vitamin and mineral supplementation for the rest of your life or you could end up with health complications.
To be eligible for Mini Gastric Bypass:
● Your age should be +18
● Your BMI should be 30 kg/m2 or higher
Before you’re approved for Mini Gastric Bypass, you’ll also have to complete a surgical, medical, psychological, and dietary evaluation.
